18th century?

Any number of people who have visited Norway have missed Røros. It doesn't lie on the main route from Oslo to Trondheim but it can easily be embraced between the two by a fairly minor diversion, which should be considered seriously. Not far from the Swedish frontier, it has practically no similarity to the western fjord coast although the distance from the coast as the crow flies across this narrow country is not immense.
A picture from the 19th century in the national gallery in Oslo of Røros in winter [which did much to make it better known] must be little different from what you can still see in this country area of deep snow and cross-country skiing.
Røros is a World Heritage site because of the remains of the copper industry which are prolific, including the old smelting mill. There are trips to the mine a short way from the city.
