If you are full of the notion of mountains and steep sided fjords, you might be disappointed at first. Trondheim doesn't share in the magnificent scenery of much of Norway but it certainly has powerful compensations.
The country, as seen between it and Røros, is remarkaby lush and pretty [in the better sense].
The small island of Munkholmen is not mountainous like the Lofotens but is an idyllic place for residents to go for a swim and is well worth the cost of the trip.
Nidaros Cathedral could surprise you but remember that this is the ancient capital of Norway. The grandeur of this Gothic building is way up with the standards of other parts of Northern Europe. The Music Museum at Ringve [see travel tip] is delightful and you can get a guided tour in English with your guide playing the old keyboard instruments.
There is one tram left with a beautiful route into the hills south of the city and you need to go to the Old Bridge and admire the old warehouses beside the river. [edit text][editors]
