Gudvangen is situated at the end of the Naeroyfjord, which is close in beauty to the Geirangerfjord and somewhat similar with its steep side and very little width, living up to its name. At the other end the fjord goes into the Auerslandsfjord and turning right onto this you reach Flåm. This is the route of the famous Norway in a Nutshell. The nutshelf need not be treated like a tight corset and you might want to experience the ferry trip to Flåm and the famous Flåmsbahn in both directions.
This spot has one drawback which goes along with the Nutshell. From about 10.30 to late afternoon it's always terribly crowded with trippers going both ways, to/from Flåm one way and Voss by coach the other. Whereas you can expect some peace in the evening, you might have difficulty finding accommodation. [edit text][editors]
