hi everyone!

I am writing a thesis about websites for independent travellers. Since mine is an experimental research I would like to ask you some questions and I would be really grateful for your help!!

How did the possibility to use the Internet change your way of travelling? in which ways and in which moments related to travelling do you use most this resource?

Thank you sooo much and have a bright beautiful day :-)

hi!

me i´m writing a thesis about "travelling and backpacking" in genareal (social anthropology), and one part will be also the importance of internet for this community.

also i´m doing a feldtrip thatfor.

also i´m a traveller. and i use the internet to get informations about everything. it didnt change my travell behavior that depply but now i get more detailes informations about countries which are not that well known untill now. and the best thing is to find a lot of people who have been there and so on.

one big negativ point is that there is a huge mass on websites and travellinformations in the net and it takes a lot of time and concentration.

Hi

The increase of internet availability is enormous...

You can already find internet cafes even in such remote places like Brazzaville, Principe Island or Bhutan.

I use internet facilities mostly for mailing

since the usage fees are still high for backpacker

and you need usualy a lot of time to browse websites...

Hi,

I was astonished how easy it was to find an internet café in Morocco and how cheap it was. The same I can say about Thailand. Even in Bhutan internet was available. I mostly use it for mailing, but with SARS it was also helpful to get the necsessary information.

I utilize the internet greatly when I am planning my trips. I love to read what others have to say about the places I want to go. I can compare airlines and book with Asian lines without the use of a travel agent. The CDC site is useful for the immunization requirements. So much information out there, it is just a matter of finding it!

I use the internet alot before I travel. I research the country I'm going to and figure out the basic costs of things. I work with my (local)travel agent online for tickets and most importantly I use the Internet to interact with the people I'm going to meet up with there. ie: penpals.

However, when the time does come to go backpacking everything changes. I throw out the itinery when I get off at the air port and don't worry about anything except coming back on a certain date.

Chiara & Bernadette,

It's been more than a year since you both posted to this forum, looking for help with your research, and I'd love to know: how goes it? What sort of results have you come to regarding the internet and travelers? Is the text of your thesis available anywhere?

Regards,

Liz
