Sometimes I cry. Not only for them but mostly for us, we suffer. We are all going to die one day. Respecting and considering non-religious or non-political requisits, this forum is here to note all those great travellers, members and persons who went before us. The spirit of them is within us and these people motivate our adventures and objectives, we learn and do and follow them, on the globe and far beyond:

2003-02-01 Columbia Crew

Space-shuttle burned-up on entry to earth!R.I.P. those corrageous people paving the way for us. On its final mission, the craft was carrying the first Israeli astronaut, Ilan Ramon, and the first female astronaut of Indian birth, Kalpana Chawla. Other crew members: Rick Husband (commander), Willie McCool (pilot), Michael P. Anderson, Laurel Clark, and David M. Brown.

Rudi,

Thank you for reminding us. I want to add my agreement and wish all of those mourning my respect and sympathies.

Suffering sometimes brings good things to happen. I see from past tragedies that there is always so much we learn and eventually good comes from tragic history. I now remember an old chinese story which is told below, but first:

Columbia Disaster: The Shuttle "Discovery" rolled out again to the launch pad yesterday. The dream is alive again, safety and technology are new.

Beslan Children: a wip-in-the-face for terrorism.

Big Tsunami: warning systems now being installed, some fresh repairs done, proved that globally we can help each other in times of need.

Pope JPII: his burial today was a very special experience. I was moved and delighted in the 4-hour emotional broadcast and realised that the world seems to be a little better united, 400 leaders, of ALL denominations from corners of the globe, millions of enthusiasts and more than a billion viewers. A saint is born!

The above mentioned story of faith and hope that travellers will like:

The Farmer.

...in old China there was an old poor farmer. One day his only horse and pride escaped and ran away into the mountains. Weeks later he went to the local wise man and master of the region and explained his grief - how should he work his fields now and provide a living income for his family? The wise man replied motivationally with the advice, to be strong, work by hand, start from new, endure and also remarked: "Who knows if this event is good or bad?"

...a week later the horse suddenly returned to the dwelling but together with a mate it had brought from the mountains. The farmer excitedly returned to the priest expressing joy that he now had TWO horses. The master was delighted too but warned, "who knows if this event is good or bad?"

...a month later the farmer returned to the master in grief explaining that that his son had fallen from the wild horse and broken an arm. The wise man said in sympathy again, "who knows if this event is good or bad?"

...the next season a horrible war broke out in the region and soldiers came farm-to-farm recruiting young men to join there army. Since the son of the farmer was still slightly handicapped they could not force him on to join their dammed battle. Again, "who knows if this event is good or bad?"...

(This story can be endless with some imagination. It has helped me understand the way life is, also when travelling and about exploration, a lot better)

Rudi,

The Chinese story has an equivalent in Hindi (national language of India) - phrase when translated means 'whatever happens, happens for good'. In short, be optimistic, look at the silver lining ofevery dark cloud, live for the moment and you will be happy! Cheers!
