You are right Vicki, just like Matt recently stated, we often remember a place from the traditional music. So, I do the same and buy a CD or two of local music at my exotic destinations. I now have a collection of about 120 which cover a lot of different moods, styles, rythms, languages or eras for any occasion or use.
International music has become a hobby so I appreciate all sounds around the globe but amoungst my favourite are ethnic, latino-jazz and island directions like "Juluka", "Lecuona Cuban Boys" or "Barefoot Man"
I often find compilations of various world music locally like:
"Hemisphere No More"
"Lieder der Welt"
"Children of the World"
"Give Peace a Chance"
"Dances of the World"
What will the world do without "wine, women and song", they as important to our lives as "wind, water and earth" :-)

...wouln't it be nice (in about 10 years) to hear music from the various destinations when viewing GLOBO pages, specially the albums? Cost factor for licence of use is a hurdle!
Instead of opening a new thread under travel photography, i'll list the intended "THEME:Music" here. These are amoungst our best captures of (mainly) street-music around the globe:

When one needs to copy something from a book, there a certain amount of words that aren't copywritten. Perhaps it is the same for music, maybe we could upload a certain amount of seconds for people to experience it on Globo. And we could put our own impression of the music, where to buy it, which company produces it (to be able to 'find' it) the name of some of the songs, and upload a picture of the musicians.
Perhaps we could overcome the copyright issue by simply inserting the relevant link into the globo item and directing the member to the site where the sound is already established?
In any event Viki's idea is very good and Rudi's album of all th emusicians contained in this forum is a work of excellence
I love this idea. I try to obtain music CD's or tapes of local/traditional when i visit places. I am also going to follow the example of a friend of mine and make my own recordings of the sights and sounds..oh the opportunities already missed..
