need advice about moving to Australia

My husband is a surfer and needs waves minutes away. We have a two year old and a 4month old and want to start a new life. Currently we live in Santa Monica California but find that there are no young families and people are just into the Hollywood materialistic lifestyle. My husband is a plumber and we hope to soon open our own business. I love the city life but we are also beach bumbs. I love walking out my door and being centrally located near tons of restaurants and organic supermarkets. I love the go green attitude of California but we are sick of the rat race to be successful. If anyone has any good advice about cute fun areas for families or any good schools. I just don't want to make a mistake of where I decide to move to. We are leaning more towards western Australia.
