Hi. I'm from Canada. :D Um...where is Sri lanka? I've heard of it before, but I don't know where it is.

Hey there shotclog! Good health and high spirits!

So why the interest in Southern Alberta or the other places? I'm from Edmonton if I can be of some help.

Already been to Edmonton & enjoyed it immensely. I'm just looking around at other places I've never been. Southern Alberta is close to Seattle where i am. Went to Halifax last year & Saskatoon earlier this year. I'm planning for Medicine Hat next Summer so anything you can tell me will be a big help. What I want to know are accomodations under $50, best places to eat, attractions & activities, & nightlife.

Some major sights (in no particular order) in southern Alberta include;

-> The big teepee in Medicine Hat.

-> Writing on Stone provincial park near Milk River.

-> Head Smashed in Buffalo jump outside Fort Macleod.

-> The Northwest Mounted Police fort in Fort Macleod.

-> The Air Force museum in Nanton.

-> Nikko Yuko Japanese gardens in Lethbridge.

-> Waterton National Park.

-> Frank Slide on the Crowsnest Highway.

The best accomodations in the area (for less than $50) will be campgrounds, andthey can usually be had for $25 CDN or less per night. Otherwise, you'll wind up staying at a roadside mom-and-pop motel or maybe a Super 8.

I can't be of any assistance on restaurants or nightlife as I've usually just driven through southern AB quickly. Feel free to check out my reports on other Alberta destinations. I would recommend without hesitation Drumheller for sure, and Calgary as well if you haven't been there yet.

Good health and high spirits!

Well if you want to do S. Alberta, here are some musts....

VULCAN TREK STATION--half way between Lethbridge and Calgary.

www.town.vulcan.ab.ca

ROYAL TYRRELL MUSEUM--6km's NW of Drumheller www.tyrrellmuseum.com (known the world over as an outstanding palaeontology museum and research facility.) --really cool place

Horsethief Canyon on N. Dinosaur trail.17.6km's W of Museum ---spectactular view of badlands. also the Dinosaur Provincial Park

(You cannot go into S.Alberta and NOT see the badlands!!!) www.canadianbadlands.com

HEAD-SMASHED-IN BUFFALO JUMP (UNESCO)

WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK (partially destroyed because of the forest fires last year... mostly on the States side though)

DEVILS COULEE--Warner Ab.

CROWSNEST PASS-(Franks slide) 90 million tonnes of rock from Turtle Mtn fell on the town of Frank. Awesome to see.

LETHBRIDGE: (Literally known as the Windy city)

Fort Whoop Up

Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden

FORT MACLEOD:

Museum of the NWMP www.nwmpmuseum.com

these are only some of the best of S. Alberta... Everything depends on what your into.. As for nightlife ... Lethbridge is Alberta's 3rd largest city so it may have the regular bars and stuff. Most of the places are in small towns or National Parks. You should try to time your trips around the south to times of Rodeos, festivals, airshows etc.. may be more going on then. As for cheap accomadation..maybe in the smaller towns, there are the regular hotel chains plus quite a few bed and breakfasts. In the SW of Alberta (near the foothills) it is more National Parks and high tourist areas so Hotels maybe on the expensive side... Camping does seem to be the better deal.

check out www.travelalberta.com/South/ for more info.

have a day

Tashi

Thanks, all, for your help but now I'm out of a job so won't be taking any vacations for a long time. But I am taking this opportunity to relocate to Alaska. So if anyone there has any job info, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Also I wouldn't mind any info on immigrating & relocating into Canada.
