The ruins of Machu Picchu are located in the Urubamba province and are 2,350 meters above sea level. The weather of the area tends to be subtropical as it is surrounded with dense rainforests. If you complete the Inca Trail, you see so many ruins, butterflies and different coloured orchids growing. It’s possible to visit the area in a day; however an overnight stay in Aqua Callientes might be better, so that you can see Machu Picchu at sunrise.
Historically, it was never found by the Spanish Conquistadors, therefore it is the best kept ancient Incas ruins, owing to its isolation. The area was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, an American explorer and was considered a place of worship.
Once through the main gates and after a short climb you find yourself on top of the mountain and can survey the area, it just takes your breathe away. [edit text][editors]
