Huanchaco is a small fishing and surfing village 15km north of Trujillo, the region's capital. It is a great place to relax and watch fishermen take their totora reed caballitos little boats fishing. These boats are unique, and apparently only in Huanchaco they know how to make them. THe village has great accommodation options and fabulous seafood restaurants, so good that people from Trujillo make the the journey only to have a sunset and ocean view dinner. Huanchaco is just a stone throw from the local airport serving Trujillo and only about 7km north from Chan Chan, one of world's most fascinating and intriguing monuments of an ancient cilivisation. The surf in Huanchaco and the next village north, is said to be amongst the best on the planet. It definitely draws many surfers from around the world. Huanchaco is conveniently connected with Trujillo with mini buses running 24h and with many taxis available on the street or over the phone. [edit text][editors]
