From its name it sounds as if Puerto Inca was the main port of the Incas, the powerful race that ruled Peru, made marvellous stoneworks and oppressed their subject people before being pratically obliterated by invading Spanish. This has ben believed for many years but the claim is subject to some doubt.

The remains, interesting enough in their own right, bear practically no resemblance to the Inca remains around Cusco. Moreover, there is no trace of the remains-littered to the Inca heartlands that you might expect.

Anyway it's a smashing place with walks by the shore past the remains and huge waves. [edit text]  [editors]
