Is fishing allowed in this river Petra? I like a spot of fishing, never caught anything but I live in hope!:-)

pesu - Apr, 12 2009 04:04pm
Tony, for sure, it's allowed to Frederick II of Prussia. ;-) Hope dies last...

Thanks Petra, I don't quite understand what Frederick has to do with it but I will look it up.

Tony, the pic was taken in the park of his summer residence.

Thanks Petra, I have looked it up and am now an authority on Frederick the second, King of Prussia, :-)

pesu - Apr, 12 2009 06:04pm
Chapeau, Tony! ;-)

Petra, I thought that chapeau was French for hat, what's that got to do with it?.

pesu - Apr, 12 2009 06:04pm
French was the language at the court ... Still today Germans use the expression to show their respect - to take one's hat off to so. :)

Thank you Petra, now I understand, I respect the compliment.btw did you know that Frederick understood at least six languages, including latin, but did not like German very much?.

pesu - Apr, 12 2009 06:04pm
His favourite language was French - as usual at the European courts then. I don't know if he didn't like the German language at all but obviously he wrote a very Francophile treatise against the upswing of German-speaking literature in his time...
