Palheiro Ferreiro is a tiny and not particularly distinguished village in Madeira about 35 minutes by bus north-west of the capital, Funchal. What makes it well worth anybody's time are the wonderful gardens, better known as Blandy's Gardens. Some guidebooks rate these as the very best on Madeira [others give this accolade to the tropical gardens at Monte.] As with oscars, a mere nomination for the top gardens in Madeira is a prize worth seeking.
The house is not open to visitors but was once the home of the Blandy family, owners of the oldest Madeira wine making establishment in Funchal. It's quite a long walk from and to the 36 bus stop including the long approach from the entrance. [the36A istops at the entrance but is very infrequent.] For those not up to the walk, there are vehicles for hire at the entrance, which will fit most paths in the gardens.
Possibly Bird of Paradise flowers would come top of a list of the attractions. [edit text][editors]
