If you are staying a few days in Lisbon your second trip out [Sintra has to be first] could well be either a return trip to Sesimbra, south of the river, or a circular route by ferry and buses taking it in. One warning - avoid the evening rush hour for your return if at all possible - the traffic is horrendous!
Sesimbra is an attractive town with a pleasant [if small] beach and a large old fort on the hill above. It's fun to take a local bus out to the fishing port - where you could be forgiven for failure to realise that European fishing is in crisis.
The circular trip - either direction is ferry to Montijo - bus to Setubal - bus to Sesimbra - bus to Cacilhas and ferry back to Lisbon. [edit text] [editors]
