Gruess Gott zurück

Posted: 2008-07-29 11:48 AM
Hi Jill,

it's obvious that you lived in the southern part of Germany - there they say 'Gruess Gott', not 'Guten Tag'. And also 'aufgehts' is much more common there. The Rheinland is very different to the Allgaeu. Not only the landscape, also the customs, the contact with each other and, of course, the people themself. If you ever plan to visit this part of Germany, do not hesitate to contact me. If you like I would be happy to give you some advice and a helping hand (just to secure, that you drink the right kind of beer :-) / to understand that joke you have to know something about the rivalry between Cologne and Düsseldorf: http://www.globosapiens.net/travel-information/Dusseldorf-907.html )

Well, I've been twice at Zion National Park, but just for hiking, not for climbing. I liked it very much. In my memories it's one of the places to breathe deeply. As you wrote into my guestbook: So many wonderful places to visit...

Herzlichen Grüße, Christian

Amish report

Gracias Jill
I appreciate your comments on my above mentioned report, especially coming from you, since you are from USA, the same country as the Amish people. You should visit them; it will be an unforgettable experience.
Ciao
Jorge

Hi Jill,

thank you for your kind comment on my 'touristy' picture of the Brooklyn Bridge. I just had a look at your picture 'Slot canyon's' - very impressing! It's unimaginable for me to get up there; I am not free from giddiness...

Take care, Christian

Zion Narrows

Posted: 2008-07-14 12:33 PM
Jill,
Have you had a chance to hike the Zion Narrows? If not, try to make time to do that in September. They are a real treat. The hike is in the stream bed for the most part but the walls rise on either side and are stunning. We used a pair of hiking sticks and Keen H2O sandals and did just fine. You can start at the top and hike down but the permits are controlled (you enter on someone's private property) so you need to reserve in advance. Even just starting at the bottom and going for a couple of miles and turning around still makes for a nice day hike!
