Tibetan debate

Posted: 2008-11-19 08:14 AM
Hi Yuliang,

I can see a great debate here on the Tibet matter, and the Europeans and Americans (who were Europeans in fact). People are people. We, humans, did very horrific things to ourselves in the name of religion, for money and power. Objectivity is a nice concept, but perhaps it does not exist in practice. It seems that outside China the world sees the issue of Tibet differently, and this is why the Han rhetoric is received with skepticism. Given the different levels of freedom of speech in China, it is believed that there is insufficient debate about Tibet taking place in China. For in 822 there was a peace treaty with China recognising the borders of Tibet as a sovereign country... Surely then came the Mongols, Qing, Gurkhas, British. All treated Tibet as a subject and not a province of same nation. It would be interesting if you could (calmly ;)) let us know what were the reasons in 1950 of invading Tibet by the PRC from your perspective. In 1000 characters?

Kind regards
Krys

Hi, my friend,

Posted: 2008-11-18 09:19 PM
it is late and I am tired but I want to send you a little message that I just added something to your comment about Frenchfrog's report. Tell me, do you feel not accepted as a Chinese person on Globo or in your life here in Europe in any way? Maybe I am wrong but when I am reading your general judgements about European people in your texts - decadent Italians (your Prima Porta report), nationalistic Spaniards (Jorge in "Greatest adventurers"), ??? however French with a 'great' president (comment to Isabelle's report) I don't feel very well with your words. Are they motivated by a huge Chinese sense of honour? I think on Globo we have so many chances to get to know us and our cultures better and we should take these chances with open hearts and minds beyond all nationalities. I hope so much you can understand what I am trying to tell you - I know my English is very poor...
Best regards - Petra

Ova-Himba

Posted: 2008-11-13 06:50 AM
Hi Yuliang,

Thanks for the messages recently. I am glad you enjoy reading my reports.

The swimming pool episode is not related to the Ova-Himba tribe. They definitely have no pools in the villages. I was writing about a lodge for tourists, several miles away from Opuwo. Sorry, I should have made it less confusing - I did not realise it could be read as a feature of the tribe. I will see if I could amend it to make it clearer.

Isn't writing the report a great fun? :)

Kind regards

Yuliang, hi!

It does take some effort and considerable amount of time to write the reports. Your reports are really great. If you look through the GLOBO library, you will see that you are making much more efforts than many other members. We really appreciate that. I am sure you will collect a few awards in no time! :)

Take care and happy travelling!

Kindest regards

Holy Mountains

Hi Yuliang. Many thanks for the info about the holy mountains of the Chinese people. I did not know about that. But I could feel the Chinese culture definitely trickling into Kyrgyzstan...

Best regards
Krys
