Member opinion: while staying in Quito, taking spanish lessons, I found the village of Papallacta on a weekend trip on my way to the jungle. It is about 80 km, more or less 2 hrs from the capital, ideal for a day trip. You find the pools in different categories, the basic are right in the village - the resort "thermas the papallacta" is about 2 km on the left and will cost up to a 100 bugs a night. The village is situated nearly 4000 m above sealevel, and while we are staying in the pools we burn our backs without seeing the sun for a single moment. Great hikes are possible, horsebackriding as well. Delicous fresh trouts are served in the restaurants! The village is nestled between the snowcaped mountains Cayambe 5790 meters (north) and the Antisana 5704 meters (south). Take a bus from Quito to Baeza/ Tena.
