Built on Gold Mines

Small and clean, they say: one of the most recommended cities in America for families to move to because of the quality of life and the natural surroundings...

Uptown is Downtown?
Uptown is Downtown?
British and Germans settled at nearby Concord in the 1700's and discovered gold at the site where Charlotte is built. Keeping up to that, Charlotte is still a "gold-mine", being headquarters to the Bank of America and others makig it the second largest banking center in the world after NYC. Its the economic center of the Carolinas, being near the border with South Carolina.

Favourite spots:
The ranches and country roads (also close) around Charlotte offer a feel of feedom from the usualy conjested other cities of the States.

What's really great:
Hornets home
Hornets home
- having american sport explained to me as european! American Football, Basketball and Nascar racing are part of the american way of life. Only as live spectator can one then appreciate the enthusiasm and follow the sports properly on TV!

Sights:
Private Ranch

Discovery Place: an interactive science and technology museum (great!)

Freedom Park and a lot of green areas around town

Surrounding plantations and ranches

Other recommendations:
Charlotte Motor Speedway
Rays Splash Planet (a themepark)
Daytrips to the nearby mountains or coast
