Galvestone makes is a wonderfull day trip from Houston. Connected by a causeway, making a crossing to Galveston Island is somewhat like going back in time.

Main street of Galveston
Main street of Galveston
The small city Galveston was once Texas's largest port, still port to cruisers but now more importantly a historical place. Only some of the old houses survived a bad hurricane in 1900.

Favourite spots:
Church with Statue
Church with Statue
There a tower offering a birds eyeview of the island.

The very old church has a Statue of Mary mounted on a tower (back tower in photo) which apparently turned 180 on its pedistal during the 1900 hurrican!

What's really great:
Victorian House

The old city offers access to a lot of the old houses around town. They are suitably equiped with old furniture, appliances and decoration, giving one some feeling of life back in the 19th centuary

Sights:
Friendly guidance by carriage

The elderly (my mom) appreciate a carraige ride through the old city.

Restaurants:

A good choice of classical restaurants on the main street.
