The village is situated on the north face of the Volcano Piton de La Fournaise, between the Route D57 and the National road number 2.
It is a really quiet and peaceful village, mainly living from the fishing industry. In this village there’s also a lot of typical Creole huts.
The village is better well known for what happened on a night in 1977, the volcano woke up destroying a lot of houses, but by miracle it stopped in front of the church (Notre Dame des Laves)and its entrance.
The lava never got inside the church, local people are very proud and have a lot of respect for that church.
About 7 Km from the village there is also a nice view point from the road where you can see different lava flows falling into the sea. [edit text][editors]
