Hong Kong is a very busy city with a special mixture of traditional chinese and british influences. There is a rather damp and hot climate. Hotels, Shops, Restaurants are air-conditioned so cold that you feel like inside of a fridge and you have to pay attention not getting a very bad cold. A cheap possiblity visiting Hong Kong is a stop-over on your flight to Indonesia or Singapore. There are special hotel-fares offered by some airlines if you stay just 3 or 4 nights for a break in your journey

There are lots of markets in Hong Kong. You have to see the Jade-Market where you can buy jade-jewelry on good terms. Very nice is a trip with the star ferry between Hong Kong-Island and Kowloon. If you have time take the ferry and not the subway!

the ymca looks good, but you have to book very early (at best one year before ;-)), yery cheap offers for luxury hotels from diferent airlines for stop-over

Nice view from Victoria Peak. Don't use the peak tram, it's a better experience by foot
