Moscow travel tips

The Moscow Kremlin
In 1147 Yriy Dolgoruliy ( Vladimir - Suzdal Prince ) established the first settlement of craftsmen and merchants on the intersection of two rivers : Moscva - river and Neglinnaya .The first wooden fortress was erected only in 1156. Town developed . In the 13'th century , Moscow more than once fell victim to the devastating raids of the Tatar-Mongol troops, and its walls were to be reconstructed thereafter. It took several hundreds of years to free Moscow from Tatars-Mongol yoke. Only by the 15 -th century , Moscow had become centralized state of all Russian lands . Ivan III brought famous Italian architects to build new churches and cathedrals inside the Kremlin territory. It wasn't used as fortification anymore. It became the residence of Russian Tsars and Patriarchs. Working hours: Daily from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., except Thursday You can get tickets until 4.30 p.m. more

grand Moscow State Circus
This is so good experience!! Yo should not miss it while in Moscow. Russian circus are much more better than in Western Europe. There is another circus in Moscow, in Tsvetnoy bulevar, where soon I will get, founded by the famous russian clown Nikulin (already dead) that should be fantastic. I will explain you about it as soon as I will visit. more

Mezhdunarodnaya
This is a very expensive hotel where I have only had breakfast during one week, but did not sleep, although saw the rooms and the prices. Anyway, you just can go inside, the porters will allow you (in Soviet times the Russians could not get inside, only if they were customers). The drinks are not expensive, and the newspapers in english, such as, Moscow Times, are for free. You can also read other newspapers imported from Europe or America for free. Another advantage to visit this hotel is to go to the toilet, a real problem in Moscow downtown. more

Ecus (Colombian restaurant)
This is the only Colombian restaurant in Moscow. The owner, Williams, had another restaurant called Ispanski Ugol (Rincon espanol) in the center, but it does not exist anymore. Food is from South America and you should ask the dish Combo, with a combination of meats and vegetables. You will pay 600 rubles for that generous dish from where can eat two persons for 1000 rubles, including salads and wne you can have dinner two persons). One waiter is from Cuba and another one from Venezuela. Music is salsa and merengue and some tangos. more

This is a Memorial complex, one of the most sacred places of Moscow and of all of Russia. You will see symbols of Russia, their victory in 1812 against Napoleon (Triumphal Arch), or their victory against Germany in 1941-1945. There is an Orthodox Church, a Mosque, a Synagogue, a Catholic chapel, a museum... you will need a whole day to visit everything. Seafood restaurant with cozy atmosphere. It is nice the aquarius with live lobsters and crabs, all the children stop there to have a llo. They have over 30 varieties of fish in ice showcases. The form of the restaurant is original, it looks like a stylized luxury ocean yatch. (It is a little bit expensive). more

I expected to find many americans in this restaurant, but everybody was Russian, and they like it! The dishes are prepared on grill stones and you have a great choice of beefsteaks cooked on charcoal. I also saw preparing grill fish. Mekhana Bansko
This is, accordinf to their reklama, the only good Bulgarian restaurant in Moscow. Although the languages Russian and Bulgarian are very very close (like italian and spanish), the food of these two countries is completely different. Bulgarian has turkish influence. They have business lunch for 330 rubles (10 euro), but the best of this restaurant, apart from the lovely interieur, is the wines selection! Russian do not have wines, they import them from Moldavia, Georgia (not for the time being), Ukrania, etc., but Bulgarian wines are world known and delicious. more

Yujung
This is korean restaurant at good quality. Korean food is extremaly popular in Russia. In every market (rinok) you can find korean food to take away, and it is delicious! I like it very much. Here you can go during lunch time and will get 30% a la carte, or for around 10 dollar (1 dollar equal to about 27 rubles) you can order a three course set menu. In their propaganda they affirm that is the best Korean restaurant in Moscow. more

They have a nice covered terrace. more

State Pushkin Museum
Pushkin is loved by all the russians, like Cervantes in Spain, Victor Hugo in France or Shakespeare in England. In this nice museum you will see his books, paintings from the XVIII century, old furniture, etc. It is on an old house in a style called Empire. I also saw the house of Pushkin in Saint Petersburg, and I have to recognize that was better than the Moscow one. Anyway, if you do not go to Saint Petersburg, at least have a look at this Pushkin Museum. Everybody pays the same price. more

Dom Knigi
In the URSS times the House of Books (Dom Knigi) was number one in foreign language books. Now there are many other shops but this one is still the best. On the ground floor they have books in russians and many souvenirs (matrioshlkas, shapkas with the sign CCCP, etc), but on the first floor (second for the Russians) you have sectos with spanish, english and french books at very good prices. more

First time that I went there was because I adore Russian chocolate, especially Grillage, and indeed, in this cafeteria/resataurant they sell this chocolate (much better than Swiss Toblerone!). I only had a hot chocolate but in the menu I saw Russian, French and Italian dishes. By the way, in you way back home from Moscow, buy Grillage chocolate, it is delicious! In Yelisaevki magasin, in Tverskaya, they sell it by weight, or in the perehod (under the metro) in station Arbatskaya there are many kiosks selling this chocolate. more

Every sunday there is a expo of souvenirs, enormous! they sell for foreigners matrioshkas, vodka, shapkas with the letter CCCP, Palekh boxes, balalaikas, etc. Metro station is called Ismailovski or Ismailovski Park. more

Hard Rock Cafe
This is very popular pub among youngsters, like everywhere else (we also have Hard Rock cafe in Barcelona, Madrid, ewtc.). It is located in the lovely pedestrian street Arbat (in the past this street was much better than now, too much commercialized). When you buy something (T shirt, for instance) they give you a gift. more

Club Che
This is a meeting point for spanish speaking people in Moscow, from Cuba, Peru, and very few from Spain. Music is good, russian and american, and cocktails are mainly from the Caribean sea countries. This is my favourite Indian restaurant in Moscow! The owner comes to you and shakes hands. He is Indian, of course, as well as the chef de cuisine. You feel in India for the nice atmosphere. Prices are a little bit high (Jaggarnat is cheaper, but more simple food, althought very good and vegetarian. In Tandoor you have vegetarian and no vegetarian dishes. The only problem is that they close at 11 PM, so do njot go too late at night. more

Staraya Gavana
This restaurant (Old Havana) serves south America food, mainly Cuban dishes, but also from Europe. It is at the same time a show, every night,, but not so good like Tropicana, in La Habana, Cuba, although all the bailarinas are black, from Cuba, and speak spanish and a little russian. This is a travel agency with many filials in Moscow and other Russian cities where for a plus of 100 rubles (3 euro) they will llok and book the best tickets by air and boat and rail. I already booked with them my train to the north of Russia, to the Arctic Ocean, next 31st October, and they got me the best compartment in Platskartni vagon (downstairs in an open carriage) for a normal price. It was about the history of the Indian people belonging to the lowest caste that under the leadership of a Patriarch decided daringly to move westwards, until Europe, to try to integrate with the local people in the countries established, but without loosing their idiosyncrasy. I loved it! Apart from the show that I saw, in that theatre there are concerts performed always by gypsies. more
