Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, grew to be one of the few African capitals, which look and feel like a modern metropolis. It has plenty to offer to business people but not so much to independent travellers. There are not any super significant sights in Dakar. Most people come to the capital to see Ile de Goree or because they have no other choice. It is so true that the foreign embassies, at least those of the West Africa states, are relatively quick in providing visas.

Dakar is well known for the Paris-Dakar annual rally, and its remarkable train station, which starts the rail line all the way to Mali.

There are no nice beaches in Dakar itself but some of the good ones are in N'Gor just a few miles from the airport. [edit text]  [editors]
