Saint-Louis is Senegal's most charming town. It islocated on two long islands just off the coast, and are linked with the continent by bridges. The town boasts magnificent colonial (French) architecture. The two or three storey buildings build along straight alleys look wonderful, although many remain in a desperate state of ruin.
UNESCO listed Saint-Louis as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The first island off the coast is the main colonial town, and where the majority of the accommodation options are found, museums, restaurants and cafes. The second island, parallel to the first one is more African, with its lively fish market, African huts and households, beaches and ... the population. However, it has one much wider main avenue that the 'pretty' island, which is often likened to the Champs Elissees with tall palm trees.
The town is perfect for organising escapades to the other UNESCO site nearby, the Djoudj National Park. [edit text][editors]
