Shiraz - Iran, Fårs At the head of the staircase, leading to Persepolis, is the "Gate of All Nations", built by Xerxes 1 and guarded at the east and west by vast bull-like colossi, which bear a striking resemblance to Assyrian cherubim. In one of his inscriptions, Xerxes refers to this entrance as "The Gate of All Nations".
