Buda Church of Our Lady ( St Mathias Church )'s by siffer

Budapest - Hungary, Budapest Atop the highest point at Castle Hill, the church dominates the Buda skyline from every vantage point. A gothic style church in the 13th C, it has a long history of destruction and reconstruction depending on the era. A major expansion by Mathias Corvinus (ruled 1458-90) was in the Renaissance style. Between 1541-1686, during Turkish rule, the building became a mosque and the sacred artwork all covered over. It would be uncovered in the late 19th C by Frigyes Schulek, who built the Fisherman's Bastion.
