information about hungary  BudapestHungary, Budapest
Walking the Chain Bridge across the Danube is a classic Budapest visitor's moment. It was the first permanent bridge across the river since Roman times, built in 1842-9 by British engineer Adam Clark. Only the central span required reconstruction after WWII. The bridge uses chains rather than cables to cross the river with the roadway suspended from the chains. Across the river, the Gresham Four Seasons Hotel with St. Stephen's church in the background.
