Nurnberg - Germany, Bayern The Pegnitz was crossed by a bridge at this site as early as 1357, the current model 300 yrs younger and featuring a tower built as the housing for the town executioner. Considered an unclean and lower class occupation, the hangman was generally shunned and confined to his tower. The condemned were led to him over the namesake bridge.
