Terezin - Czech Republic The peaceful countryside village of Terezin is home to two of the most infamous relics of the Nazi era. The Large Fortress, now the town center, was the site of the concentration camp known forever as Theresienstadt, where tens of thousands of Jews were placed prior to removal to the extermination camps. The Small Fortress, the prime site for visitation today, was the first Gestapo prison in Czechoslovakia. It housed predominantly political prisoners including Czech patriots and resistance fighters and others from Russia, Poland, France, and the Balkan nations.
