information about turkey  GoremeTurkey, NevĀ¶ehir
At 4000 ft above sea level, Uchisar is the highest point in Cappadocia, dominated by the "great castle" or kale. It was part of an intricate communication system for the Ottomans in Istanbul in which beams of light were directed from high point to high point to inform of invading armies. This huge block of volcanic ash was carved into a rockhewn community complete with a spiral main street reaching to the summit. The castle remained occupied until the mid 20th Century.

Uchisar today is one of Anatolia's most attractive communities, with a large percentage of European and particularly French inhabitants, creating a boutique village of small trendy restaurants and hotels.
