After winter rains the semi arid desert of North West South Africa becomes a kaleidoscope of colour. Wild flowers of all kinds smother the sand and the rocky crevases in such profusion that they take your breath away. This is the area of the Nama people, and ancient tribe or race of people who migrated from Namibia into South Africa in search of better feed for their stock. The apppearance the decendants of the original nomads is very different to that of the other natives of South Africa. The skin is lighter and the facial features flatter, the eyes are further apart, noses smaller and lips are less fleshy. But it was the flowers that I went to see.
In Spring time artists and photographers from all over the world flock to an area around Springbok and south to Clanwilliam just to record the spectacle if brilliance and colour.
I took far too many photos but could have taken even more!
