Bloubergstrand is a long curved beach north of Cape Town opposite Table Mountain. Long before the Europeans settled here the Hottentots and Bushmen occupied the dunes. The British landed here in their second and successful attempt. They won battle of Blouberg Hill and took over the Cape from the Dutch.

Today Bloubergstrand is a popular destination very for family vacations, fishing and also surfering. The water is icy cold here because of the Antarctic originating Benguela Current.

The beaches east of Cape Town such as the one at Muizenberg only 40km from away offer the warm tropical Agulhas Current and are more suitable for swimming. [edit text] [editors]
