Quick time in Paris

Paris travelogue picture
My first time in Paris was for a 24hrs tour while waiting to leave the country after back packing in Auvergne (the South of France) for 10days. We ran in and out of the metro. Took pictures of the' main attractions, ate hot food (finally) and called it our Paris tour. A few years later, I find myself in Paris again, this time, taking the time to really tour it.

Favourite spots:

My companion had never been to France before and just taking the metro from the airport to the Notre Dame was a treat as an accordion player wearing a French cap sang and played the whole ride. The Notre Dame is well known to many, and I've always been impressed by the architecture of the building, more then the treasures inside (don't get me wrong, I'm still awed in front of the majestic murals). Inside, I lighted some 'lampions' for Jeanne D'arc and bought a coin of the Cathedral. (One can get them onsite for many attractions in Paris.) Next we walked to the Eiffel tower. We stayed in line for at least 1 hour before we were able to climb up to the first platform.

What's really great:

We enjoyed the Louvres although the pyramid isn't very attractive. We saw most of the halls in the museum, but it was impossible to see everything in one day. The Mona Lisa is as always always full of people around it. Every time I am in Paris I always stop at the Louvres I take the time to visit in details a few rooms. But since it is very time consuming, I try to limit my time there. The last time I was there I saw the History of the Louvres on the ground floor.

Sights:

Montmartre is where you'll find the now famous Moulin Rouge Club. Sex shops gallore where seedy people hang out. There's nice art shops, cafes and a flower market around Place du Tertre and on rue tu Mont-Denis.

Accommodations:
Ibis hotels is where I usually stay. I find it convenient to stay close to airports, myself. And I don't mind traveling to/from the airport to the city. Ibis has small yet comfortable and practical rooms. At the Charles de Gaulles Airport, the Ibis hotel hasa complimentory shuttle to/from the terminals, and the metro is conveniently situated on the ground floor. See the address in my guide.

I enjoyed the Salvador Dali Museum situated close to the Sacre Coeur. The Dali good art pieces are very expensive though.
The Sacre Coeur has an interesting dungeon that you can visit. While we climbed the stairs up to the top, they were playing an organ, and it echoed through the humid rocked walls. It was a great experience.
