Ávila is as fine a walled city as you are likely to see. Sadly most of the city's life now takes place outside the walls but the interior is far from being merely a living museum.
Santa Teresa is to be found almost everywhere but you can get a break from this by visiting the Cathedral, at some points built into the walls or the basilica de San Esteban, just outside the main gate. The monastery of Santo Tomaso looks good from above and is highly praised in the guidebooks but it does involve a significant uphill pull to get back.
Bus and train stations are within a quarter of an hour's walk from the walls.
