Granada, capital of a province with the same name, undoubtedly holds one of Europe's most stunning sights, the glorious Alhambra. Apparently it even enjoys mathematical significance but it doesn't need it. It's an architectural gem and, at hte right time of years, its gardens are most impressive.
People's impressions of the rest of the city vary widely. For instance terms used to describe the cathedral range from 'exciting, picturesque and of great interest' to 'one of those loathsome enormities built to overawe.' The caves of Sacramonte vary between being a 'tourist trap extraordinary, a hive of thieves' to 'one of the interestingly characteristic sights.' Only the old Arab quarter, the Albaicin, escapes adverse comment.
The obvious advice is to go and make up your own mind - but see other sights first because once you have seen the Alhambra, anything else in Granada must be insignificant in comparison. [edit text][editors]
