Sóller is situated on the north coast of Mallorca. Although there is some tasteless building linking it to its port, which was a separate village, this is not visible from the centre where the town seems little changed. The foyer of the church and the grid of the bank next to it are among the art nouveau attractions while both the antique train to Palma and the tram down to the port give the town an old world charm.
The longer of the two bus routes to Palma makes a splendid ride through the lovely village of Deía and Valldemossa where Chopin and George Sands stayed.
The Botanical Gardens provide a great panorama of the mountains and, within easy walking distance lie the charming villages of Biniaraix Fornalutx, the latter being one of the claimants to the 'prettiest village in Spain' accolade. [edit text][editors]
