Hythe is a small seaside town in Kent on England’s South East coast where I used to go as a child for Summer holidays, and have recently returned to relive some memories. It has a rich maritime and military history, playing important parts in both the Napoleonic Wars and the two World Wars.
The Crypt of St. Leonard's Church houses one of the only two ossuaries (bone stores) in England with 2,000 skulls and 8,000 thigh bones.
The Royal Military Canal, built as a defence against Napoleonic invasion, runs through the town parallel to the coast where the Martello Towers sit as a final line of defence.
Hythe is a terminus for the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway, the smallest gauge passenger railway in the world.
