Hey all, As everyone knows by now, I'm not big on writing reports in the manner laid out on this site. The headings for the reports are not accurate enough for me to ramble on about.

What if the reports were to be written in "Itinerary" form. The writer can start with their day one and short form write what they did, where they went, etc.. They can also include tips in it such as..

"We Drove to Thompson Mb, because the train from Winnipeg took 2 days, however, the train from Thompson was a good 10-16hrs, very slow and NOT recommended by me.. too boring , no scenery and they are always an overnighter. The fastest, though more expensive way would be to book a direct flight from Winnipeg."

I personally, would write alot of reports this way, because I'm not just rambling niceties about a place I'm actually helping people plan out their trips. I rarely read reports because they tend not to hold pertinent information and can be rather boring. I would rather pick up a guide book than use the present day info from the reports posted on here.

I'm suggesting this after reading new members comments about "how useless this site is" and I tend to agree for trip planning. We want people to come back to the site because of its useful information.

what do you think?

reformat the report section so one can write it in itinerary form.

More useful information acquired.

Dear Tashy, you have described the GLOBO "travellog" (GLOBOblog) feature that already exists very well which a lot of members often forget about. That section allows the member total flexibility in a chronological way and also an extra picture per day, even personal pictures and even comments that will not offend the "spam" rule for advertising. Even "grey" material is accepted there and is interesting to read through too. For good examples, amongst many, I wish a "ToM"/"BoM" award for these specially):

http://www.globosapiens.net/travellog/jorgesanchez

http://www.globosapiens.net/travellog/wojtekd

The advantage of these "blogs" is that they can be written from I-cafes underway while information is still fresh in the mind. One may even ask for help from other members while on the way for the next day or week! We should encourage and promote this feature.

I once asked for more flexibility in the "headings" of reports and some where accepted. See your relavent forum index to find the many previous discussions.

Some members just write over the lines, that is OK if it is a brilliant or very special report.

RRG

Added: Who exactly said that GLOBO is "useless"?

Rudi, true there is the Travel log, but when one searches for info on a certain country they have to each individual travel log to get the information. They have to read alot of "nothing" to get to the most pertinent info.. Wojtekd writes very well and has alot of good info... however unless a member knows about him they will have trouble to locate the info.

When you type in the search, a certain country, only "reports" and "tips" is displayed. When you open the reports they are usually just niceties about the place.

For me personally, I would like to read the report and get some very useful travel info about the place than search through all the members sites for the info.. I don't have the time to do this. If there are say 5 reports written about a place than all I have to do is read the 5 reports and pick and choose which info suits me... If I have additional questions I can contact the member directly or continue on to read the members travel logs, travel tips, Pictures etc..

To me, all the reports show is regurgitated information that one can get from any guide book. And I can go to different websites that have a good presentation of the places basic information..This may draw in more people looking for relevant information to their travels.

it doesn't matter "who" said GLOBOsapiens was a useless site, what matters is that a new member said it.. And we as long time users of this site have to ask ourselves why? I have put on the table one possible reason.

We always played with the idea of having "road" reports but they are difficult to incorporate into the system. The best is to write a report on a place and there make reference to your travel log. Zhis can also be done in the comment of pictures. That way all will find the information and the chronological log will support the report or picture or slide show.

Acceptable alternative but I do not find these kind of reports very interesting, run like a diary. "We got out of bed at 7.30 and had breakfast ......."

www.globosapiens.net/travel-information/Puerto+Montt-2585.html

www.globosapiens.net/travel-information/Puerto+Natales-2584.html

This info fits far better in the members travel log?

Others incorporate a sort of itinery/route information like:

www.globosapiens.net/mamielle-travelogue/Puerto+Montt.html

www.globosapiens.net/gardkarlsen-travelogue/Orlando.html

I like alternative styles and understand that the headings are a recommended guide. Many write just over them. Reports should be a brief description of the highlights, fun, problems, surprises one encounters at a place. I notice that reports with a bit of historic back ground and facts (not copy and pasted) mixed with personal experiences and views are the highest rated at GLOBO.

The above is only my opinion. I am NOT a good report writer and Tashy might ask her self again who the hell am I to tell members what to do?
