Northern England/Southern Scotland

Edinburgh travelogue picture
There is not a site for Windemere in northern England, so I will include that here too. Edinburgh is just north of England (which is, duh, southern Scotland) and is very worthwhile. It is a beautiful place with seemingly thousands of pubs, friendly people, long history, castles, great restaurants, nature, bagpipers, nice hotels, decent hostels, and everything is with in walking distance. The city is layed out very easy and you can find you way around no problem.

Windemere is a total escape and gives you utter relaxation. It is in the heart of the Lake District in northern England and there are hikes galore, boat trips, and tours that give you an insight to the world of William Wordsworth (famous poet). This is a getaway from your already busy vacation.

Favourite spots:

The pubs. While there is so much more to do, the pubs and beer of Scotland are among the best in the world. Walking from downtown Edinburgh to the castle is a beautiful walk.

Windemere- I enjoyed the boat trip around the lochs immensely. It is a great way to spend the afternoon. Also very nice to kick back in one of the restaurants and read. Very tranquil here.

What's really great:

Edinburgh- The beer. There is so much more to Edinburgh than beer, but man it is good! Try a good Kilkenny...it pours like a Guiness but is lighter.

Windemere- Again, the slow paced life. Also very nice to take a tour around the area. I rarely take organized tours, but this is worthwhile. They take you way up into the hills and give you a chance to see the beautiful countryside of England.

Accommodations:

As you walk out of the train station, make a left on Prince Street. Walk straight until the road bends (8-9 blocks), then make a right. There is a unique, really cool hostel there that is very old. Huge winding stair case, old paintings, very special place.

Hangouts:

Everywhere...too many to name. Check em all out!
