Scuba Diving

  8 votes

I will only write about the diving, because I unfortunately missed out on the rest of the country. First, Roatan is for a little higher spender, but not by much. It has nicer beaches and the sand flies are not as bad, but they are there! More on them later. The diving is very good, but not quite as good as Utila.

Favourite spots:
Utila. This place has charm and a sort of family feel about the island. Diving is great. Check out Utila Dive Center. As you come off the ferry, hang a right and walk 5 blocks or so...it will be on your left.

What's really great:
Great nightlife. Mellow but still can get jamming if you want that. The locals are sweet and the travelers that turned out to stay forever are great great people. Utila is definitly more for backpackers, so, with that...it is the cheapest diving in the world. Be sure to haggle a little with prices during the off season.

Accommodations:
Being a backpackers island, there are cheaper places for one to stay all over the place. Check em' all out.

Other recommendations:
BE WARNED!, sand flies can be nasty. You can't see the little buggers, as they bite you left and right on your legs. Don't scratch or you will easily scar (look at some of the dive guides legs that have been there for a while).
