Avenches is a small, picturesque Swiss town, beautifully settled in the soft rolling broye landscape in the western French-speaking part of Switzerland.
Avenches is famous for it's Roman archeological sites. There is an amphitheatre, a Roman theatre, some columns, thermes, temples and a big gate. However, there is also a medieval castle and an historic old town.
In summer, there are opera productions in the Roman amphitheatre. A beautiful summer evening with a popular opera under a clear moon and star lit night sky... what more would you want. This year (2005) they will play Nabucco by Guiseppe Verdi. [edit text][editors]
