Also home of the famous band "NICKLEBACK" Edmonton is the capital of Alberta, sporting a population of approx. 700,000. Although it is mainly a blue collar, redneck type of city, it has a fairly good mix of cultures with Ukraine being the dominant. Edmonton is the most densely populated city furthest North in Canada and is the leader in Oil and Gas production. With around 8 months of winter, Edmonton has become known as the "festival city" of all Canada in the summer. The most popular festival is the INTERNATIONAL FRINGE THEATRE FESTIVAL second to Scotland.

The river valley with many bike paths, the museum, the Mall and Whyte Ave.

What's really great:
Edmonton hosts a lot of world famous things such as the Juno's, World masters games-July21-31 2005, and the summer Olympics 2001.

THE WORKS ART & DESIGN FESTIVAL -June 20 to July 2
attracts artists and patrons from around the world to animate one square mile of Downtown Edmonton by transforming alternative spaces into galleries

INTERNATIONAL STREET PERFORMERS FESTIVAL-July4 to 13 Downtown Edmonton is alive for 10 days of free performances by internationally known street acts including magicians, clowns, jugglers, mime artists, musicians & comics

KLONDIKE DAYS-July 17-26 (a huge fair with alot of live shows)

HERITAGE FESTIVAL - Aug2-4 the greatest showcase of Canada's amazing diversity of people and ethnic cultures!

FOLK MUSIC FESTIVAL-Aug7-10 (with Grammy award winners performing)

DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL-Aug15 to 17

LABATT BLUES FESTIVAL-Aug22 to 24

ENBRIDGE SYMPHONY UNDER THE SKY-Aug 28 to Sept.1

Check out the Architecture of some of the buildings downtown.... known to be some of the most unique in Canada.


Accommodations:
Fantasy Hotel located in the Mall (11 World Famous theme room styles with Jacuzzis) In the high season it can be quite pricey but in the down time you can get a pretty good deal.

A new international hostel is located where the fun is, in Edmonton’s historic Old Strathcona neighbourhood, just off Whyte Avenue. It's the coolest strip for shopping, pubbing and clubbing, near the University of Alberta and across the river from the downtown core. Everything you need is within walking distance with the infamous West Edmonton Mall a quick bus ride away.

the best ones I've been to so far are Jewel of Kashmir(Turkish/Indian), The Asian village(Indian), Bo Go Gi's(Korean) and the Sicilan Kitchen(Italian)
