Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) is made up of 7 Islands, W. Caicos, Provodencials(Provo), N.Caicos, Middle Caicos,E.Caicos S.Caicos and Grand Turk which is the Capital of the Islands. Compared to Provo, Grand Turk is a sleepy little Island which consists of small guest houses and hotels. There are no resorts on this Island. The whole of Grand Turk is 7x1mile. You can do and see everything in a day, well maybe 2. The founding people of TCI refer to themselves as "the Originals" or "the Islanders". Much to my surprise Turks is NOT a tropical "jungle" Island though mozzies are a plenty there. With the exception of N. Caicos, the TCI are barren of jungle, they are covered in medium shrubs/brush with a few palms and decidious trees thrown in. Nothing grows in TCI because the soil is too salty. everything has to be imported from either US,DR or Haiti and this in turn makes everything outrageously expensive. TCI uses USD.

TCI is world known for its snorkling, diving and deep sea fishing. Within the area of Grand Turk Gibbs Cay, is a very nice place to go for the day. You can snorkle and free dive for Conq. While there you can feed and swim with the stingrays. Other places of interest are the Govenors Beach which is a beautiful place to watch the sunset or to get married. The Govenors golf course is across the way. Most all beaches in TCI (except Provo) are soft white sand and unpopulated. The Turks & Caicos National Museum is also a must. It is filled with artifacts excavated from the Molasses Reef Wreck. A full-sized recreation of a portion of the reef is complete with the corals, crustaceans and fish.

You can walk down Duke street which is the main road and see all the history of Grand Turk. There are many little garden pubs and courtyards where you can kick back and relax. You can ride bikes, go horseback riding( the horses are free to roam all over the Island. There is deep sea fishing, plenty of places to look for shells or sea glass. The people of TCI are very down to earth and friendly. They are made up of Haitiens, DR's and locals.

All of these places are very nice and very pricey. The cheapest one being the Manta House at about $40-60/night.
