Devils Tower - United States, Wyoming Devils Tower rises 1,253 feet (382 m) above the nearby Belle Fouche River. American Indian legends tell of six Sioux girls who were picking flowers when they were chased by bears. Feeling sorry for them, the Great Spirit raised the ground beneath the girls. The bears tried to climb the rock, but fell off, leaving their scratch marks on the sides.

rangutan - Dec, 06 2007 01:12pm Reminds me of the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". Geologists till today still argue how this was formed, it is not a volcano! Trivia: It was the very first US monument declared!
