Hi!
A new digital topographic map library is online now at http://www.topomaps.eu. The main part of the library are soviet military topographic maps, also known as genshtab maps. The library include topo maps of Central and South Asia, Middle east, Tibet, China (only west regions are psesented now). Also is covered all territory of the x-USSR and Russia, mountain regions of Asia - Himalaya, Kun-Lun, Pamir, Tian-Shan. There are some maps of european countries. I hope this site will be usefull for all adventure travellers.

I think this meantioned site is still in developement. Only Rumania is offered as the important and detailed 1: 50 000 class which gives me a security error on my computer. Members, I would wait till it developes or try it and report, it can be VERY usefull when travelling to a certain place and hiking, like for Britain which works extreamly well:

This entry is not "spam" but perhaps ADVERTISING? I doubt that the services are free or free of spyware?

I have found the site very interesting and i cannot find any evidence of advertising.
I expanded maps for two areas of Georgia with the area of Tiblisi effectively delivering a street map.
The details both contour wise and in terms of reference data are in my view on par with the British Ordinance survey which i regularly use.
Granted the updates of features are only current to the mid nineteen eigties but this is clearly stated. The natural contours will have changed little in the meantime.
I will certainly be returning to this site as in the case of the English writer Hazlitt. Long before the era of virtual travel he penned an essay that to me has beeen unforgettable entitled "On a map of the Bernese Oberland"

Thank You for the link, it's realy interesting site. Now a few words about topomaps.eu. This service is fully free, and there is no spyware in the images. To avoid errors during opening maps, You should save files to disk, not to open them in browser - all maps (except some maps of Europe) are in TIFF format, and IE isn't the best way to open the files.
This site is new, and probably contains some errors, that will be corrected soon, I hope.
