advice for SF travelling solo in South America

Machismo abounds - no need to be rude, but be careful. The heavily traveled areas are also heavily patrolled to protect the tourist industry. The one place I did find unsafe was Lima. Even though there were two of us, we had two different encounters that were unpleasant. Have a blast!
