First, thanks for sorting the chat thing.

I seem to be always grumblig but I can't read the comments on my or anybody else's report. There are two on my Polbain report but I can't even know who sent them - and I do value feedback.

Incidentally MS INternet Explorer still gives an error message when I click on a name to get to a home page but as there's no problem on Mozilla Firefox, I don't find that very important.

Hi David

1) I'm not sure if this will work but you may have set your browser to reject pop-up windows from GLOBO. Go to "Extras" > "Settings" and either delete the option "block pop-up windows" or add http://www.globosapiens.net as an "exception".

2) Another problem could be that you are double-clicking on "Read comments (2)" instead of using one click. A slow double click could result in the comment window immediately ending up behind the report window, hidden!

Just two ideas, hope you can fix that.

RR

P.S: Here are the current comments to that report:

"David, an interesting read - the Summer Isle Post office seems to offer the perfect 'rest bite'."

"Another comprehensive and colourful report [4.6].
Never heard of it before, the hydroponics at Achitibuie is an interesting science, NASA should use it for for space travel?
(Also, that mention of "Smoked venison" really got my appetite going! :-)"

I'm still getting this problem but it seems others may not be.

I'm feeling really rude disregarding comments I know have been made on my Carrbridge and Polbain reports but I don't know who has made them or what they said.

Could it be something about windows vista? Rudi's sensible suggestions have made no difference.

Hello David,

I am just reading your posting. The read comments function has not been altered since a loooooong time. So this is very unlikely that it is a problem with GLOBO. Rudi might be right with his popup blocker guess. Hoever I do also have one installed and it workes here at the GLOBO office with more then 4 different computer systems.

Can you be more specific with the description? What happens exactly if you click the link? Try another browser, or try to stop all services running in the background one by one to isolate the problem. Once you find the programm blocking it, I can install it here on a test system and find a work around so you can keep using your blocker.

Best regards,

Andy

Hi Andy
In response to your suggestions I have just tried with three different browsers: Internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Flock. I have tried each of them with all other programmes switched off. All of them are set to allow popups from www.globosapiens.net.
I get the same result on all three. If I just click in the appropriate place, the Globo home page comes up. Sometimes [in general] it has helped if I hold down control while I click nad I have tried that with no success.
I know this did not happen with my old computer and Windows XP. However I think that at first I was OK on this computer with Microsoft Vista. I'm not absolutely certain about this but it's the only thing I can think of.

I know not everybody has this problem because Rudi was kind enough to tell me what my first two coments on Polbain were. It might be useful to know whether anybody else with Vista is having the same problem.

Sorry to be a nuisance but it's very irritating.

Best wishes
David

Hi David,

you wrote:

Can you please copy and paste the error message for me? That might contain a hint on the error.

Do I understand this right, you do have trouble only with the links that open up a window to display information. For example the profile summery of member, the feedback on reports, the pictures of the gallery etc. ?

Are there any links on GLOBO that open up windows with information that do work, instead of others that do not?

For example can you open pictues by clicking the small picture, or can you display the small profile summeries?

Thank you for any further hint on that.

Best regards, Andy

Hi David
Hi Andy

I use the right-finger-mouse-click very often to display options like to copy or to open links in a new window. This does not always work well at GLOBO: David is right, clicking this way on "read comments" or on a members thumbnail-profile-pic takes one to the GLOBOstartpage instead of the intended page!

David, try a simple left-mouse-click or check the system settings (and speed) for your mouse or new mouse and driver. Incidentally, I strictly avoid new computer platforms, have you installed all the service packs or current updates for Vista? Does your hardware meet the minimum requirements for the software? Every time I make a SW upgrade on my system - seems I need new HW! :- (

Hope one of these ideas work. Meanwhile, here are the current comments to your C&C report:

Shorter than your other reports but equally interesting to read. I'd love to see more photos.

Hello everybody,

the problem should be fixed now. The displaying of comments has been rearanged and shows now up underneath each report. That is also more consistent with the comments under the pictures in the gallery.
After clicking on the "by member xyz" button I could reproduce the error that David was mentioning for the comments window. There was an error inside the programm code which now has been fixed.
Let me please know once you do find other links that take you to the homepage instead of opening the required window.

David also had trouble with Internet Explorer that bounced back an error when clicking on it. This was due to a third party software he had installed, which did a overdue the job what it was supposed to do. After removing it, that problem disapeared.

Best regards,

Andy
