Hello Globies....

Yes.... help me! Am contemplating buying a new serious camera, rather than a compact one.

Any recommendations??

Thanks!
Gloria

Hi Gloria

I'd be glad to help you. So what are you up to?

When not compact, how much bigger would you like it?

What feautures would you like to get?

I just got another camera because my Powershot G6 was stolen. Now I switched to a D-SLR Nikon D70 which I could get used at a very reasonable price.

So if you want to find the one camera for you, you need to be a bit more precise so that members can help you best.

Hi Gloria, three weeks ago I also bought my first serious digital camera. I bought a Nikon D50 which is at the cheaper end of the market as I knew I wouldn’t understand some of the features of the more expensive models and wanted something fairly simple to learn with. It came with a 18-55mm zoom lens and I found that the shorter 18mm (shorter than most compacts) allows better and easier framing of shots, especially landscapes.

I’ve been trying out some of the features, some with success and some with disastrous failure, but it’s been fun trying. Overall I am happy with the camera, I’ve been on one trip with it so far and have posted two of the better photos from a little village called Upper Arley on GLOBO here,

Happy snapping

I've just got two cameras, a compact for my everyday shots (Sony Cybershot N1) and then a Lumix DMC-FZ7 that I'm just learning to use. It has a good manual function that I'm experimenting with at present. A lot of my animal shots were taken with this camera as it has a x12 zoom.

I have to say that I love my Canon 350D. It really lives up to the great reviews it has received. I still have my compact though as it can make taking pics in certain situations easier.
