Attempting to shoot one of the worlds most shot objects can be a big challange! So what can you try to make your shot special?
When you do a search in the picture gallery for the world eiffel you got 24 pics... Anybody would like to make some comments about these?
There are two 5 star pics so far, what could have been done better in the others?
I for instance like the one posted by Neda (Lioness). It's not the usual postcard picture but gives a great impression about the size. The detail it shows is harmonically placed within the picture. The first platform being in the upper third of the image.
There are some things that probably could have been done better though in this image.
- The tower is not centered (right leg is slightly cut off)
- The big building in the background between the legs is not centered too
- The brightness is not great thoroughout the image
I think that taking great pictures of well known places is one of the thoughest thing to do.
So try to get a special angle, a personal touch to your pics could work wonder. Why don't you just go for some details because you never can get a great shot like the professionals but you can have your own little detailed shot you like.
There's no need to have a picture showing the wohle eiffel tower in your photo album. This image is in your head because you saw it thousands of times in newspapers, on postcards, in TV, on Internet or live.
What are you thinking about this?

Hi Martin,
This is a very good idea: discuss each other’s pictures.
The Eiffel Tower is a good start. Let’s have things right. The picture you discuss is Lioness picture taken on 2004-05-15. I agree with all the points you make.
I like: Spaceout’s Eiffel tower (taken 2002 05 18, 4 stars) It is taken from an unusual angle. I like the curves. The colours and the light are exactly right. And so is the compostion.
From point of view of composition I also like Spaceout’s: entitled: Eiffel Tower and stairs to nowhere. It is slightly out of focus (or is this the way I see it on my computer?) There is too much contrast in the shadow at the bottom and the clearer colours in the rest of the picture.
I have now two browsers open so that I can see the picture and read your comment. This is not very practical. It would be very helpful if we had our own ‘Picture Corner’, where we can upload pictures that we would like to have critiqued. And each GLOBO can add his or her critique.
Can you ask Andy? I know a website which could serve as an example.
Should we ask for more unusual Eiffel Tower pictures to be uploaded so that we can judge them?

I have my Eiffel here... the usual angle, except that it was taken around Christmas and the special lighting was attracting hundreds of visitors at the foot of this iron beauty; it was taken without the aid of a tripod. Strange that it appears so small on Globo.

Yes,Martin, you are rite the tower legs and the building in the background are not really centered ,but to me, this image gives a great detail of the iron work of this grandeur creation-excellent close-up.Also the image gives me the perception about the size of this
awesome structure;-looks like it goes somewhere without the end.

Agree with Boris, http://www.globosapiens.net/inzaghi/picture-eiffel-7793.html is the most unusual. If only the picture wasnt mounted on a black border (confussing with the black sky), would be ***** otherwise. Filippo also uses a near vertical shot for the Arc Triumph, great, to get a feel of the strenght behind the structures.

Inzaghi’s picture http://www.globosapiens.net/inzaghi/picture-eiffel-7793.html shows the tower at an unusual angle that’s for sure. I don’t like the black sky very much and wonder what the effect would have been if it was taken with a blue sky as background.
The Chinese Eiffel tower is lightly out of focus and the very top is missing. I find that annoying. If it were there and the sides of the picture were cropped. So that the focus is on the Tower itself I would give it 4 starts
I like Andy’s Tower best out of these three. I like the low light of the afternoon and the interesting sky. The dark bushes in the foreground do not contrast too much. i would give this 5 stars.
I am now searching my own pictures for Eiffel towers if I find any interesting ones I’ll post them.

I uploaded three Eiffel Towers. All taken from more or less the same position, from Trocadero, if you are familiar with Paris.
NO 1: Originally it was in colour, but I like it better in black and white. As it emphasizes the rainy day.

Marianne, your #1 http://www.globosapiens.net/marianne/picture-eiffel-tower-13961.html is also the #1 Paris picture at GLOBO I think, has everything a perfect picture needs. Black and white and tones of grey are also colours! The other two should have either been sharp silouettes or higher exposed, not between?
I agree with Rangutan that your number 1 picture is magical.....
However the tip of the tower is just slightly cut off.... But it still got a great atmosphere!
Im sure in color it would come nowhere close to this magical touch it got now.
It really looks like a piece of art to me.
