FIJI and NZ in Febuary travel buddy

I will be backpacking and trying to travel on a budget. I am interested in seeing the islands and possibly doing some tramping on the North Island of New Zealand as well as possibly hiking in FIJI. I am looking for a few travel buddies is anyone headed there? I have to admit i avoided the backpacker islands when i went to Fiji (Yasawas etc). I had a great time on Taveuni! Some great diving sites too. Ovalau was like stepping back in time!
